I walk in circles.
Not because I’m lost.
But because I know where I am — and I like it.
When I first started walking in circles, I was actually running. During the Covid lockdown, I was living in the penthouse of an apartment building in Buenos Aires.
I had just started a running habit. But the Argentine rules said we could only leave home for necessities.
So, with easy access to the roof one floor above, I ran up there.
Back and forth, around and around. Lap after lap. Every day.
And it felt good.
I got into a rhythm. I didn’t have to worry about where I was going or how to get back home. I just moved and turned and smiled.
Years later, I found myself doing it again — around the shaded driveway of a two-bedroom cottage where my partner and I lived while caring for her grandmother.
Barefoot. Sometimes one way, sometimes the other. Around and around.
And now, since arriving in France, I love walking around the pool.
I love being near the water, out under the sun, seeing the sky reflected when I glance down. Sometimes I even get to scoop out a little insect that’s fallen in.
I’m not trying to get someplace else.
I’m not trying to be someone else.
I’m happy where I am. Just enjoying the movement.
It might look silly to walk in circles.
Some people might get bored.
But I like it. It feels good to me.
And that’s reason enough to do anything.
Enjoying the ever-spinning cosmos,
Jack
