Someone recently asked me:
“Could I get a version of your book Parables with just the lessons at the end?”
I had been sharing how every chapter contains two parts: first a story, then a short lesson to take away.
Here’s what I told them:
“Without the stories, the lessons lose what makes them resonate. Humans are storytelling creatures. Give us a bit of wisdom and we forget it in two seconds. Tell us a story and we remember it forever. That’s why Aesop’s Fables are so powerful — and why my books combine wisdom with storytelling for the best experience.”
In my experience, true learning means we don’t just “know” something, but we remember it in the moment when we actually need to apply it.
We learn that in two main ways:
- Repetition. Hearing something again and again until it sticks.
That’s why I repeat my favorite message — feel good now — over and over. It helps me, and it helps others too. - Stories. Stories tie lessons to images and emotions, so there’s more for our mind and heart to hold onto. Stories give context, so we can make intuitive leaps:
“Oh, I’m in a situation like that character. Maybe I can use the same lesson here.”
Maybe one day I’ll share a book that’s just a collection of teachings. But there are plenty of those already. And honestly? They’ve never touched me the way a story does.
Because stories don’t just hand you wisdom.
They light your imagination on fire.
They guide your heart through an emotional journey.
They feel good.
And they’re good for you.
So if you, like me, believe in the power of stories…
👉 Get your copy of Parables (or either of my other wisdom stories) here and start reading today.
They’ll feel good now.
They’ll light your imagination on fire.
They’ll guide your heart through the journey it’s craving.
And yes — there are lessons at the end of every chapter.
Much love and happy storytelling,
Jack
