Feel good now.
I heard a great definition of “learning” the other day.
The speaker said:
“Learning means: same condition, new behavior.”
Here was his example:
“Suppose you pick up the phone and say ‘ABC.’
I tell you, ‘Great. Next time you pick up the phone, say ‘XYZ.’
Next time you pick up the phone, you say ‘XYZ.’
Congratulations — you have learned.”
Feel good now.
Here’s the interesting part:
He pointed out that a lot of us living in the Information Age absorb a TON of helpful information…
But we don’t actually use it to change our behavior.
Which means we’re not really learning anything.
We’re just entertaining ourselves.
Feel good now.
There’s nothing wrong with entertainment.
But useful information is only useful when applied.
So next time you’re in a situation where your default response is to feel bad…
Stressed.
Anxious.
Frustrated.
Overwhelmed.
Upset.
Pause.
Remember to feel good now.
Find a reason to feel grateful…
Loved…
Supported…
Empowered…
Brave…
Resilient…
Creative…
Confident…
Happy…
Apply the feeling-good state to the situation.
Intentionally choose a new behavior.
Feel good now.
Congratulations — you have learned.
And watch what happens…
Because this practice changes the lives of the ones who actually learn and use it.
Class dismissed.
