Feel good now.
Did you know I used to write erotica?
It’s true.
I’ve always been a writer — ever since I was five years old.
When I was a teenager, I self-published my first short story.
(You can still download it here for just $3: https://www.amazon.com/Gentlemans-Holiday-Adventures-Book-ebook/dp/B00AT2ZL8U)
Then, when I was in college, I discovered that I could make money writing spicy, explicit stories and publishing them online.
So it began…
Thousands of pages.
Millions of reads.
I was good.
Even years after I stopped publishing, my old pen name would still float into the Top 5 most recommended authors in the genre.
Looking back, it makes perfect sense.
Even then, I wanted to write stories that made people feel as they read.
Stories that activated imagination.
Stories that activated emotion.
Stories that feel good now.
Feel good now.
That was the real appeal of writing erotica: readers sought it out for one reason only — because it felt good now, in a sensual, imaginative way.
To this day, that hasn’t changed.
I still want to write stories people use to feel good now.
Whether that’s:
- adventurous, brave, and wise in PARABLES
- mystical, wistful, and playful in PILLAR WALKER
- thrilled, confident, and a little sassy in GOD’S BOUNTY
After years of writing “feel-good” stories, here’s the lesson that stuck:
If I feel good while writing it, readers will feel good while reading it.
This has been true for erotica…
Fantasy novellas…
And sci-fi thrillers alike.
Feel good now.
I recently finished the second novel in a new series — a blend of the action and sci-fi adventure of Lucian Lightbringer with a dash of the spicy themes I learned writing erotica.
It’s called TROUBLESHOOTER, and I’ll be sharing more about it soon as we move toward publication.
For today, my reminder is simple:
Do what feels good now.
And whatever you do, if you feel good while doing it…
Those ripples will make other people feel good, too.
Sending love and excitement from my writing desk,
Jack
