I gave this advice recently to a 1-on-1 client:
“Instead of reaching for your phone, reach for your imagination.”
We can feel good either way.
Phones are designed to release addictive levels of dopamine, after all.
But so is our imagination.
Psychology and neuroscience tell us that the brain has a hard time distinguishing reality from what is vividly imagined.
So when we imagine vivid, positive experiences, we can generate the associated feelings—and even the biological response.
A phone is hit or miss.
You might have an interesting notification.
Or you might not.
It’s a gamble.
Imagination is a win more often than we realize.
After all, you can imagine whatever you want.
You can self-curate the best-feeling experience.
And when you feel good, you’re more resilient against stress.
Your immune system is stronger and your mind is clearer and more focused.
It’s easier to show up as your best.
And that’s good for the world, too.
Feel good now.
Use your imagination to have fun.
Science supports it.
Metaphysics encourages it.
The world appreciates it.
And because it feels good, your body and mind want to do it.
